For our Environmental Engineering team, we are looking for an Environmental Engineer – Noise Coordinator. We are looking for a social, innovative and enthusiastic thinker that enjoys coordinating a group of people and managing internal and external stakeholders in this field. Van Oord is working on improving underwater sound knowledge and associated stakeholder and requirement management within offshore wind. For this task, we are looking for an Environmental Engineer that will be involved in questions from our different tenders and projects on mitigation measures, acoustic modelling and monitoring, knowledge development, etc. You should also bring a:

  • Relevant background in the offshore (wind) discipline or in construction management / project management / stakeholder management, and/ or environmental issues;
  • Relevant knowledge on underwater sound aspects pertaining offshore wind.

Your responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing stakeholder and environmental & social management strategies and plans related to project setup/design and work method during execution;
  • Communicating and discussing project execution plans, risks and opportunities to/with stakeholders within the tender/project environment;
  • Provide advice and substantiation for management and mitigation of potential impacts from underwater sound created in offshore wind projects;
  • Managing risks related to project documentation and permit requests and compliance with permits; ecology, underwater sound, archaeology, uxo’s, soil pollution, etc. within the tender/project environment;
  • Managing risks/opportunities and stakeholders relationships within the tender/project environment;
  • Developing and translating innovative and sustainable applications towards specific projects (eg. Building with Nature design, ecodesign);
  • Creating social and environmental awareness and commitment of all (project) employees of Van Oord;
  • Supervising / coaching junior (stakeholder engagement) environmental engineers.

Job requirements

  • MSc or BSc degree in social and/or environmental science;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in preferably marine dredging and/or offshore wind construction projects in relation to stakeholder and/or environmental issues;
  • Relevant background in the offshore (wind) discipline or in construction management / project management / stakeholder management, and/ or environmental issues;
  • Relevant knowledge on underwater sound aspects pertaining offshore wind;
  • Solid understanding of governmental relationships and processes;
  • Strong partnership and stakeholder engagement abilities, with expertise in influencing senior level stakeholders;
  • Well-organised team player that can also work independently;
  • Excellent social and communication skills;
  • Good understanding of civil (marine infra, offshore wind) engineering;
  • Solid understanding of the physical, chemical and biological aspects of the marine environment;
  • Creative and result-oriented attitude;
  • Excellent command of the Dutch as well as the English language(German beneficial);
  • Strong networking and presentation skills;
  • Willingness to travel abroad when required for the job.
